VLC rocks. It plays almost everything, and will also play damaged/incomplete files.

VLC does rock.
And DVD Flick is good as well.

There is also FreeDVDCreator.

If you do a search on FreeDVDCreator @ lifehacker.com you'll get links to a lot of related software.

WinAmp plays all sorts of different file formats, probably including MP4. and it's free. (sorry, but i don't know anything at all about burning files to DVD; i've never owned a DVD burner.) also, here is a website that will convert just about any file format to some other format for free.

http://www.media-convert.com/

check this out. It has converted every single video I've had problems with. And it's free. :-)

I might want to check this out...
http://www.cccp-project.net/

[That's combined community codec pack]. They have the classic movie player and zoom movie player bundled in with the files that allow them to play just about everything and fix just about anything.]

Those will also rip & burn DVD's for you

I use Winamp and Video Lan (VLC) . I am not sure how well Winamp does video for MP4's. Video Lan does great with both.
