Who: Arshtat and Toma
When: Evening of October 23rd.
Where: Skald's ship. "Cause that's where the party is."
What: Toma gets a promotion
Toma: *Immediately after receiving the letter from Queen Arshtat, instructing him to meet with her, he rushes onto Admiral Skald's ship and finds himself in front of her door.* .... *takes a gulp, and mats down his hair (he's without hat) in an attempt to look presentable before gently knocking*
Arshtat: ::is sitting regally at the small table when she hears the knock:: Enter.
Toma: *slaps down a last stray strand of hair before taking only a few cautious steps into the room and slowly closing the door behind him* U-Uh....You... *finds his voice* You called for me?--Your Majesty? *holds up the letter, just to prove he's not lying*
Arshtat: Yes :: gestures to the empty seat. silently glad he is not wearing the Lordlake hat:: You are quite punctual. That is a good trait in a future Queen’s Knight.
Toma: *A bit surprised to hear that from the Queen, he regains the confidence that is usually sucked out of him in her presence and rushes to take the empty seat* Yes, I know, that's what everyone always told me. Back in Falena I was never late for training!
Toma: *realizes it may sound like he's compensating for something and shuts up, and gazes at the Queen, waiting for her to reveal what he's there for* ....*But he can't contain himself!* Am...Am I in trouble?
Arshtat: ::smiles calmly, to not make this too frightening for the boy, but still tilts her head to the side at the question:: No, quite the opposite. Unless there is something I should be told.
Toma: *shakes his head 'no' so hard it might fall off* N-No, not at all, Your Majesty!
Arshtat: ::knows it will be useless to tell him to calm down and so gets right to the point:: Good, then we can get straight to business. How long have you been an apprentice?
Toma: *sits straight and motionless* I've been an apprentice for almost two years, now, Your Majesty.
Arshtat: I see. Normally I would know more of your progress, but for obvious reasons a great many details are unknown to me. But then a great deal about this situation is odd and has no precedent.
Toma: *slightly, but eagerly, nods his head, inviting her to continue.*
Arshtat: ::smiles again as he reminds her of a young Kyle:: I’m certain you have heard of the recent disappearances among the Knights. At the moment Kyle is the only full and acting Knight present in the castle.
Toma: *takes a more solemn tone and looks down at his knees* Yes, I've noticed. I haven't seen anyone, lately.....*brings his gaze back up to the regal woman, a hole in his stomach forming as he tries to guess where she's going with this*
Arshtat: Yes, it is quite a troublesome situation. The duties of the knights do not lessen with the decreasing numbers. Which is why I believe it is time for certain changes to be made. Do you understand?
Toma: Yes, I do. *Great, more errand work? That's usually always what it is when someone builds up the suspense like this...*
Arshtat: Good, so you will understand why it is that you are being given such an important position as the Princess’s bodyguard.
Toma: !!! *nearly falls off his seat and all the stray strands of hair he tried so hard to conceal pop right back out* The Princess? Lymsleia? M-Me, Your Majesty? I-I mean, of course... Of course! If that's the job I'm being handed...! *face becoming flush, at the thought of such an honest-to-goodness Queen's Knight's responsibility*
Arshtat: ::raises her hand to tell him to calm down:: This is a very large responsibility. I cannot emphasize enough the importance. You will be expected to be near her at all times and ensure her safety. If anything were to happe…Nothing is allowed to happen to her. Do you understand?
Toma: *Obeys like a child would their mother, perhaps it was her tone? He contains his energy, but still secretly clutched each side of his chair's seat. * I understand, Your Majesty. As a Queen's Knight in training I've got to put the Royal Family's life before my own! *brings a fist to his chest.* I know, I wouldn't let anything happen to Lym....--mmmsleia Her Highness.
Arshtat: ::notices the slip:: Of course with this new assignment comes a long list of responsibilities. Among which is ensuring not only the princesses physical safety but also that the proper respect is paid to her at all times. Obviously as we are not in Falena that is a more complex command than it would have been. Do you understand?
Toma: ...Huh? Well, yes, Your Majesty. I wouldn't disrespect the Princess.... *What the...Did Lym tattle on him or something?!*
Arshtat: ::young children are so cute:: Of course not, and as her bodyguard you will be responsible for ensuring no one else does. This includes not only verbal but physical. Normally the bodyguard for a crown princess is female as no male is allowed to touch her, but there is no other option. Do you believe you are capable of this assignment?
Toma: *A rosy hue comes across his cheeks as he finally understands what the Queen is telling him. He's also embarrassed that she'd believed it was something he needed telling.* Y-Yes, I'm capable...
Arshtat: ::has eyes and common sense, yes the pubescent boy needs to have it spelled out:: Good. You are then assigned as the temporary bodyguard to the Princess.
Toma: *dispels the previous thoughts from his mind and a proud, as well as rare, smile runs across his face* I won't let you or anyone down, Your Majesty. I'll keep the Princess safe, you can count on me! .......*eyes wander up vainly to the top of his head, and he self-consciously pats his hair down again* Uh...I could change back into uniform right a way, if you wish...
Arshtat: I was not aware you had one yet. Yes, that would be best. Appearances can be a powerful tool.
Toma: Yes, Your Highness. *spirited nod. and then a silence, as he waits for the Queen* .........
Arshtat: Good, then you are dismissed. You shall report to your duty immediately and will carrying it out until told otherwise. If anything should happen to the princess under your care you will have me to answer to directly.
Toma: *Hops down from the chair after giving an affirmative answer* Understood. I'll go to the Princess' side right now!
