I'm staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which is just the most resorty of resorts on Waikiki as far as I can tell. (Oh yes, poor me.) It's a fairly ridiculous place that does its best to deliver the "Polynesian Fantasy." You might want to mention it to the hotel staff. Odds are, they haven't even considered the impact to the soldiers. After the shooting, a lot of things would happen that would bring the PTSD back for me, and usually it was just thoughtlessness. Someone who hasn't experienced a big trauma like that just can't intuitively know what could be a big trigger for someone who HAS been through that trauma. I did find, though, that once I pointed it out to people, they were usually pretty quick to correct whatever they could. I'm guessing that the hotel staff would rethink their fireworks display if someone mentioned the PTSD impact to the soldiers next door.
