uh-oh...I haven't even been back for 2 whole semesters yet, and college is already getting the better of me. But I ask you - is there really a point? Ergh. May have to drop it.
In the immediate future, there is no point for me, other than maybe a few skills I'd gain in a few classes (but I could so easily pick them up on my own!). I want to be self-employed. I just don't see a degree as a vital element to that.
But the fact remains that this society is starting to expect everyone of "value" to have a degree. It used to be far more optional. You'll get 10 times more job opportunities, you'll have an immediate level respect, and you won't need to explain to every punk who asks "where did you go to school?" that you didn't.
Basically, it's a ticket into a system that none of us really want to be a part of, but we'll all eventually succumb to when we decide we'd like to live above the poverty line....which is getting harder to do.
And it will be far easier to get the degree now than during your midlife crisis.
That is the only reason I'm still sucking it up. And oh god, it hurts.
Another thought on the matter. My uncle is 45 years old and just finished his degree. As he puts it, "It's not about proving your intelligence. It's about proving that you can jump through the hoops people give you. That's what society wants to know about you. And if you don't, they think you can't."
Hey, Tomatosan, you have some really good taste in music.
With that in mind, I have two good suggestions:
1) As Aranyamei's uncle points out, show the world you aren't a quitter and can perservere to jump through hoops. You may find meeting this challenge is actually very rewarding. Just set your Will Power on Maximum.
another thing that would (guaranteed) help a lot is to visit another school where you have many friends who love you and who have all had their fair shares of school troublin'. we could help you out. (i'm talkin about wells, dufus, if you didn' know. ha) advice piece numero uno: chillax, chillax, chillax. and lots of liquids...

You should get your uncle some of his favorite ice cream.
He'd like that.
Guaranteed.
