(TITLE)
GEOCITIES: THE ELECTRONIC FRONTIER

OPENING SCENE

VIDEO SIMULATION - ESTABLISHING
(Clouds soar through a pink sky over a majestic city made of metal, covered with neon lights. A giant statue of Bastet is in the center.)

INFOPICTURES NARRATOR (O.V.)
"It's the year 2000. The Internet is ascending for the first time in an era loaded with decadence, greed and luxury. But scholars have always asked. From whence did this innovation come? Was it science alone that fueled their passion for knowledge and money, or was there a higher power involved?"

(Zoom in on statue)

"Bastet. Egytian goddess of the cats. Protector of the pharaohs. It was said her lick could heal wounds, her scratch could turn a man to dust. And thanks to new findings by InfoCorp researchers, there is reason to believe that great electronic cities, called "Geocities" rose in the early years of the golden age, and the sites constructed in those cities also worshiped mankind's feline friend."

INT. WAREHOUSE 77A-EAST

(It's dark except for a single overhead light in the distance. A man is in the light with his back turned to the camera. The camera slowly zooms in on him.)

"Some men work 9-to-5 every day. They drink their coffee. Sort papers. Adjust their implants nervously, hoping the boss won't see them slacking. Yes, some men do that. But some men labor long hours every day of the week on a quest for discovery."

(Camera, now close to the man, stops zooming in. He dramatically turns around, pulls of his shades with a flick of the wrist, and looks directly into the camera.)

"This is such a man. He is Harold Elijah Liese, InfoCorp. Data Retrieval Manager, and bringing you the facts is his job."
EXT. HAROLD'S CAR IN MOTION

(Harold is in driver's seat, talking to camera in passenger's seat.)

HAROLD LIESE

"Our department made the discovery of a lifetime, and that is the discovery of an Internet organization called "Geocites." Geocities was an enormous part of the Internet in its heydey, and we believe the servers originally had something to do with engineering plans for underground cities. But eventually, that plan changed. And through the HUGE amounts of code we've translated, we're seeing a central theme that cannot be ignored."

SERIES OF SHOTS - CAT IMAGES FROM GEOCITIES

HAROLD LIESE (O.V.)

"Almost everywhere we looked. No matter the source. If it was from Geocities, people were paying tribute to cats."

SHOT - CLOSE IN ON CAT IMAGE WITH EGYPTIAN WRITING ABOVE IT

"And if there's anything about cat worship, it's historically, always, a signal of something stunning - perhaps frightening. Indeed, there is reason to believe that Geocities was founded by an Egyptian Bastet cult.

(sound effect: Lion's roar)

"The same Bastet cult that assassinated classical composer and late 20th-century cultural icon Michael Jackson."

(sound effect: thunderclap - music: "Thriller")

SERIES OF SHOTS FROM FUTURE SCENES

INFOPICTURES NARRATOR (O.V.)

"But that's not all! After these commercial messages..."

(Liese, muted under narration, gesturing and speaking with shades on in the sunlight)

"...we go deep into the history of Bastet, and how Geocities may have functioned as a gathering place for both shamans and assassins alike. Also..."
(Masood, holding picture of Bob Marley)

"...front-lines investigator Mohammed Nouri Masood tells us some of the other shocking revelations found in the ancient Geocities."

MOHAMMED MASOOD

"There is new evidence here that pop music artist Bob Marley not only predicted that hideous deformed people would take over his beloved island of Jamaica, but that he was complicit in making it happen."
