Juno -- Want to talk about it? I do.

So I finally saw it.

Wow. Every bit as good as I thought it would be.

Ellen Page is just perfect. But then, so is Michael Cera. But then ... but then ... I hope the cast wins the Screen Actors Guild ensemble award, because everybody was just so good, so real.

Come on in and tell me what you think about this movie.

So, where do you want to start? :)

At how great the parents were, with their perfect tone of total love, disappointment in the outcome of her choices, and complete support? I thought that was spot-on, and if only every parent of a pregnant teenager could take their cues from these parents...

That was great. Heartwarming, actually. :-) Loved the expression on J.K. Simmons' face: "Bleeker?"

And we've seen AJ throw down before, but it was still fantastic the way she let the ultrasound technician have it.

Oh, I know!! Makes it completely clear that she's on the side of the "dumb-ass stepdaughter," doesn't it?

So, to everyone who shows up, I have this question:

It's apparent that Juno had a crush on Mark, but did Mark have feelings for Juno a little bit? That was the impression I got, that perhaps him realizing he liked hanging out with Juno more than his wife was what was spurring him to leave Vanessa.

Amybabe, you go first. ;-)

Oh, totally. If anything, I think that Mark was more moved by his feelings for Juno than Juno. She saw him as a rock, as the idea that a person can be a grown-up, an adult, and also, you know, "cool." :)

But I think it's Mark realization that he deserves to live a life without aspects of his real self literally and figurately hidden away--that's the big wake up call. I also think that Mark's surprise at Juno's reaction is very telling. It danced along the line of totally creepy, but didn't really cross it. I think he realized, in that moment, that he didn't know, really, how he felt about Juno. And realized that he'd totally missed why he was important to Juno.

I kept drawing parallels between this part of Juno's journey and Beautiful Girls. While certainly significantly different, there are some good comparisons to make. Did you get that at all?
