First aid for epilepsy is basically very simple, and is designed to protect the safety of the person until the seizure stops naturally by itself. If you see someone having a seizure, stay calm and follow these rules

on the back they can swallow saliva or the tongue can fall backwards and cause lack of resumed breathing or vomit so that CPR is needed. the tongue is not swallowed it just goes slack as the person comes out the seizure and falls backwards causing breathing not to resume as it should (people normally don't breath during a seizure and then afterwards spit up some mucousy bloody phlegm, if on the side they can do this without it impeeding their breathing and they just start to breath again normally)
You truly are a wonder, and no- you can't swallow your tongue, just bite it all to hell =) and if something is placed in the mouth- the jaw snaps down so hard soemthing in the mouth can break teeth. I broke my teeth when someone did the old saying of 'put a wooden spoon in mouth to keep from swallowing tongue' I also apparently broke the spoon.... also know that someone seizing can turn blue for a moment. it's normal. I do and I make aloud squeel or something when my lungs clamp shut at the beginning (they are muscles) it's just air being sucke out or blown out or something (i'm not awake so I don't have a clue) I've seen other people have seizures and heard the squeal so I'm pretty sure that's what mine sounds like 'high pitched eeeeeeeee with a click at the end' People wake up totally out of it and then sleep for hours.

So, the important thing to know, I guess, is not to leave the person laying on his/her back.
