As hard as it is to actually do it, you got to let him go. Look at the letter as closure. Just think, "I'm letting you go, this is it. This letter is officially goodbye." So what if you told him you'd be there for him. If he wants to take you up on the offer, he'll call you. And if so, you'll be there for him. If he doesn't want to talk to you, you said goodbye, you got closure. And it'll be his loss
