I'v come to realise that maybe a picky reader and there's no way around it

This aside, I still want a story that is character driven, I desire stories that made Pixar, Harry Potter, DiscWorld so phenomenal. I want to see a character suffer or struggling from the beginning and fight his way to be the hero. Plus I want this in a fantasy world setting, someplace to get lost in and return to another time.

That's exactly what I was trying to do in Smiley and the Hero.
