Don't quit your current job before you've got a new one. Not only does it financially stifle you, but it also sends out the wrong kinds of signals to the next employer. Someone having quit their job BEFORE they started searching for a job does make one wonder whether there was a situation where you HAD to quit your job for some reason.
Job searching while having a job is draining, yes. But I think it improves your chances of getting a job, three-week notices aside.
Oh I know, I'm still applying to jobs while I search right now. The boss will give me an extension if I don't find a job by the end of month. At the same time, this job has too much ego and stress for simple work.
I'm too old to be dealing with the idiocy of the people I work with. :)
