CB got me the CD and damn if it isn't as good as I wanted it to be. I only heard one song that I downloaded from Pitchfork. Anyway, I really love it and I like the whole thing not just one or two songs. Anyway, while we're on the subject of who they sound like, I heard a lot of Smiths in there too. I didn't hear the U2 though. Maybe that's just a live thing.
You're right -- they don't sound at all like U2 on the record. It was just the product of being live
I mentioned to CB that some of the singer's phrasing reminds me of Morrissey. There's one song called "At Last At All" where he really sounds like Morrissey.
That's a great point. It may be a generational thing. I'm not sure teens think that way. That would explain why the cool but unapologetically retro sound of Of Montreal inspires such devotion among Tucson's under-21 set.
