Sometimes in a video game RPG, after you finish beating the boss of a certain level, in order to get back on your journey you have to backtrack through the castle, or cave, or forest, or other excuse to have lots of monsters jump out at you. The same enemies still populate the place, but you've grown so powerful that fighting them is a tedious joke

The Marine Corps is actually a step back - I'd say it's closer to high school than it is to college. Half the guys aren't even old enough to drink legally. Not that that stops the inebriated urination-on-the-tortoise contests.
