The amazing day/evening in Castlemaine.

Highlights for me were Tenniscoats and the incredible Josephine Foster and Joanna Newsom. Smog/(smog) left me lukewarm I'm afraid, not that he wasn't good, and I'm a fan n' all, but perhaps his set suffered through comparison with the others. It might also be that I was feeling a little drunk and sleepy at the time - although these sensations hadn' ( Read more... )

i am totally bummed that i didn't get any video of the
tenniscoats. i kind of ruined my own experience of
joanna by taking video but it was worth it in the end -
the one minute snippet i have of the first new song she
played still blows my mind. i CANNOT wait to hear it
recorded. it is a magnificent song. i spoke to some
people who had heard it the night before (which was
apparently a more lacklustre show altogether) and were
not that into it. ??? i couldn't understand. amazing.

i felt the same about smog. the thursday show i attended left me similarly lukewarm. not many classics, and i really felt like he didn't want to be there, playing for us. joanna, on the other hand.... oh, joanna.

there's this book i've read about what instrument to choose for your child and the harp was listed under 'other'... all of which are only suited to incredibly gifted children, and those who want to play them will really want to play them. like joanna i suppose. which means for me it's back to good ole guitar-n-casio.

musical ventures are a bit hard.. i only just got my casio sent over, and no guitar as yet (i weep). i'd still be really keen to do something though, if you are. email me if you like .. sfonck at gmail.com
