"...it's now more important than ever for the White House to get its conservative evangelical voter base to the polls. And if Republicans can't change the law preventing churches from devoting tax-exempt resources to partisan politics, the Bush-Cheney reelection effort appears ready to stretch the rules as far as possible"

I would love it if he tried to tell us we don't have the right to bear arms...because that would ensure a few million votes for Kerry.

I don't know enough about anything to comment on Edwards, except to say that most of the stuff seems positive and I do think he's got a huge leg up on Cheney...and I hope that helps.

I think the best thing right now about Edwards is he's southern, and he's electable. I honestly don't remember too much about his stances on the issues, but I remember not being opposed to him earlier on. I think that a Kerry/Edwards ticket was the best choice, and therefore, I'm happy.

As for your first paragraph.... While I agree with you, if you want to run for public office, you need to come up with a different metaphor. A "steamy republican dump", while vivid.... Is sort of the thing you don't want played out in the media. ;)

Edwards isn't the liberal that Kerry is, but he's no Republican. Not even close. And though I like him a lot (voted for him in the primary), I worry about him in the debates with Cheney. He's slick, yes, but Cheney is way, way more experienced and knowledgeable about policy than Edwards. Edwards rhetoric in the group primary debates came across really well, but it's a whole new ballgame when you have to go toe to toe with someone like Cheney, where ALL barbs are directed at you, and EVERY hole in your record is pointed out. I don't necessarily think Cheney can knock him dead, but he can make him look VERY young, VERY inexperienced, and VERY unprepared for leadership.

With all that said, I still think he was the best choice for Kerry, and Godspeed to them both.
