For those of you that do not know what an NCE is, let me offer you a brief description as per our friend Tycho from Penny Arcade:  "An especially humiliating defeat is referred to as a Negative Christmas Event, or NCE - it is distinguished from ordinary holiday revelry by the way it retracts joy and merriment. Such events are dispensed by a dark ( Read more... )

That was probably the most entertaining LJ entry I have read in a LONG ass time. What hand ended up beating your two pair?

Good luck at the table next time bro.

Trips. Fucking Trips. tommysnag February 25 2004, 11:44:19 UTC
This was classic.

Like I said: I had K10. (Mind you I preflop raised with this hand in late position.)

67 (why he was in the hand with a preflop raise is beyond me, the fucking hand wasn't even suited.)

Anyways, flop comes K106.
Now, I'm positive I'm gonna win this hand.

I'm last to move, so the bets come like this.

Some guy with AJ bets 85.
The 67 bets 175.
Now, me - with my Kings up, goes over the top all in.

The AJ calls. (Obviously looking for a queen)
AND THE 67 FUCKING CALLS. (IDIOT!!!)

The turn comes... it's a 6.

HAHAHA... GREEEEEAT.

I lose. (PS: AJ never got his Q.)

175 as in dollars? $175? Are you serious? And who's the asshole who bets that before the turn with that fucking hand?

You play for too much money man, but your opponents are shmucks so keep at it and the odds will have to be with you next time. Shit like that just isn't supposed to happen.

Question (I'm still a beginner so bear w/ me): Why didn't you wait till the river to go all in? Would you have held back if you saw the turn?

175 Cash - Oh, hell no. tommysnag February 26 2004, 10:35:22 UTC
Justin,
Do you think I just suddenly became independently wealthy? Haha.
No, I didn't mean 175 cash - I meant 175 in tournament chips.
The buy in for the tournament was 10 bucks.

But 175 was almost 25% of the stack of chips we started with (800) - so it was a pretty hefty wager for LOW PAIR ON THE BOARD. (I still think that guys an idiot - and I'm right... because I know I am.)

Anyways, the reason I went all in there was to avoid hands like 67 catching that card on the turn. A smart player will never ever go all in with low pair on the flop, unless he's got some ESP that the other player is definetly bluffing with a nothing a hand - and even then it's hard.

The trouble was - I wasn't playing with a smart player. I was playing with a very stupid - but incredibly lucky player.
