1984
Just finished "1984", a really sad, depressing look at a futuristic society under Socialism. Now here's the thing I don't get- the guy who wrote it (George Orwell) was a SOCIALIST!!! Does this make ANY sense to anyone??? Cause it certainly doesn't to me

Yeah, that a socialist would be so quick to expose the horrors of socialism was pretty weird to me as well. But I wonder if perhaps he thought the absuridity of the novel would make people secure in thinking, "Oh, that will never happen to us," thereby making them more comfortable with the mild elements of socialism. Hmm. I don't know.
Harrison Bergeron (short story) by Kurt Vonnegut is a favorite of mine, in terms of dissecting socialism. Take the time to read it, if you want.
