Please welcome... the CSI franchise!

Oct 28, 2006 19:00

The anonymous tipper who suggested someone smoked a Morley cigarette in the fifth season premiere of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was only one season out, it was in the sixth season premiere, "Bodies in Motion" - as backed-up by a discussion of the episode.

Obviously, one CSI brings in the other two CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. Anybody know if ( Read more... )

Another thing to consider... bttf4444 November 7 2006, 04:24:39 UTC
My interest in the Tommy Westphal Universe has been brought on by my love for Michael J Fox - and the connection of his respective characters in Family Ties and Spin City. So here's something to ponder on. For of all, does MJF even exist Tommy Westphal's Universe? If so, did he marry Tracy Pollan? Also, how did MJF get his big break? Or did he just remain being a little known actor?

Here are my thoughts: yes, MJF does exist in the Tommy Westphal Universe. No, he didn't marry Tracy Pollan - because, in 'our' world, he met her on the set of Family Ties. Because Family Ties obviously doesn't exist as a series in the Tommy Westphal Universe, MJF ends up marrying someone else. However, Alex Keaton does end up marrying Ellen Reed. I initially said that MJF got his big break, when Class of 1984 became a sitcom. However, upon learning more about that movie, I decided that it doesn't really fit. Instead, I'll probably say that Leo and Me had spawned a sitcom spin-off in the Tommy Westphal Universe - and the sitcom spin-off becomes very

Hi and welcome, bttf444!

I found a lot of interest in what you had to say here, and it inspired me to write a somewhat lengthy Toobworld essay over at my blog. You can read it here:

Sorry if I got your gender wrong when I mentioned you as the inspiration. I'm hoping it was an inspired guess, as John Cleese said in the Cheese Shop.

I just read your essay on your blog, and it was a great essay, and it has given me some things to ponder over. I'll check out your website a little bit more.

Yeah, I can imagine that some Family Ties fans may not want to accept Alex Keaton's destiny from Spin City as canon to the Family Ties Universe.

Also, speaking of Family Ties, you know how Andy is born in one season - and he's a prescooler in the next season. Short of seeing that Andy just magically aged four years over the summer - maybe the Family Ties we see in the next season takes place in an alternate reality. So, as a result, there are at least two Family Ties world. If you choose not to consider Spin City as being part of the Family Ties world, then you have a third version of Alex Keaton.

Gee, this stuff can be pretty mind-boggling.

Hi, it's me again... bttf4444 November 7 2006, 08:41:00 UTC
I'm wondering how many of you think it's possible for fictional universes to exist in other realities. Being a Back to the Future junkie myself, I've been doing a lot of thinking about the idea of parallel universes - which is closely related to time travel. I think it very well could be possible that many different parallel universes do exist - and some of what what we think of as fictional worlds could exist as reality in a parallel universe. Know what I mean.

A Third MJF Character: Daniel Post bttf4444 November 10 2006, 02:12:28 UTC
It's looks we actually have three MJF characters in the Family Ties/Spin City Universe and Tom Westphal Universe - if we do include Hi Honey I'm Home.

It looks like we have thirteen degrees of separation here - and it does cross St Elsewhere.

1. Spin City -> Family Ties
2. Family Ties -> Parker Lewis Can't Lose
3. Parker Lewis Can Lose -> Leave It To Beaver
4. Leave It To Beaver -> Hi Honey I'm Home
5. Hi Honey I'm Home -> The Dick Van Dyke Show
6. The Dick Van Dyke Show -> Mad about You
7. Mad About You -> Friends
8. Friends -> Caroline In The City
9. Caroline In The City -> Fraiser
10. Fraiser -> Cheers
11. Cheers > St Elsewhere
12. St Elsewhere -> Boston Public
13. Boston Public -> Boston Legal

Thom Holbrook over at his page of spinoffs & crossovers has the direct link between 'Cheers' & 'Boston Legal'. I saw the episode and recognized it myself, but it went by quickly and I totally forgot about it by the time the episode ended. (I'm getting old!)

The characters played by Candice Bergen and Tom Selleck had dinner at Melville's, the restaurant over the Cheers bar. For them, it was a pivotal scene.

That is a great crossover - and perhaps stronger than the Boston Public/St Elsewhere supposition we've made.

another Las Vegas/Crossing Jordan crossover tele_toby November 17 2006, 22:34:47 UTC
Here's a programming note for tonight - yet another 'Crossing Jordan'/'Las Vegas' crossover occurs on 'Las Vegas' tonight at 9 (EST) on NBC.

Something to do with a rare violin.

What are the odds that they'd keep running into each other? Aren't there other casinos that could've been involved?

Maybe in the real world......
