Hi! I just noticed this, and it's a lot of fun! :~D

I'm not sure how the rules are on specials and such, but there was a Children in Need charity special in 1989 that crossed over Doctor Who and EastEnders. (Info here) It's not really considered canon though, as both universes have referred to each other as fictional since. Still, it did happen!

Doctor Who links anonymous August 22 2008, 22:46:01 UTC
In the television series Doctor Who the main character "The Doctor" travels through time and space meeting many different historical figures. For example in one episode he meets Queen Victoria of England. Therefore couldn't any series involving the Queen Victoria character be classified as part of the multiverse?

I mean, he's met a hell of alot of people, that could extend to hundreds of period dramas and serials etc?

Theoretically, yes.

Practically, the ruling goes something like this:

Real life persons (including historical figures) do not count as links between shows except when they are portrayed by the same actors and have production-wise connections.

Cases in point: Adam West portrayed Doc Holliday in three Warner Western shows, and David Fredericks portrayed J. Edgar Hoover in several episodes of The X-Files and Millennium; both shows were produced by Chris Carter.

Usually, shows thus linked by historical characters had their common background already established by the time the historical characters appeared.

Gene Greytak portrayed Pope John Paul II in many TV shows and movies. Does this provide connections?

Back to your question: If Queen Victoria were portrayed by the same actress in Doctor Who and some other show, yes, they would be linked in my opinion.

Here's an odd one: alleged sitcom Little Britain crossed over into Australian soap opera Neighbours, as seen in this clip: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=puLWPpiUHjI&feature=related

Dunno if anyone can link either show to the TWU, but there you go.

Additionally, several shows written by Steven Moffat (Press Gang, Joking Apart, Chalk, Coupling and Jekyll) are all linked by characters, places or products. Since Moffat is now taking over the reins of Doctor Who, it wouldn't surprise me if he made a reference to one of these shows, and in doing so brought all five into the TWU.

Can you give us any examples of those crossovers in the Moffat shows? I love that sort of trivia!

CAught an episode of 'Remington Steele' on the American Life Network this week - "Small Town Steele". At the end of the episode, Steele is reading the Los Angeles Tribune!

I've posted a picture of it here:

'Pushing Daisies'/'Dead Like Me' tele_toby October 4 2008, 04:34:04 UTC
'Pushing Daisies' linked to 'Dead Like Me' this week with a reference to the Happy Time Temporal Services agency, the same company George worked for when not reaping souls.

There will be several characters crossing over from 'Wonderfalls' later this season as well.....
