What about the Pope?

Oct 08, 2008 14:51

This may be a moot point since the ascension of Joseph Kardinal Ratzinger to the Holy Seat as Pope Benedict XVI since he bears no resemblance at all to Pope John Paul II. And I know that I have stated differently in a previous thread. But ( Read more... )

I considered adding him to my own list, which is now over 360, however by now the only show that he would add for me is the Wayans Bros

Other shows he appeared on as the pope were Night Court, Just the 10 of Us, and Murphy Brown,

He also appeared in several other movies including Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult which was a continuation of Police Squad

If i were you I would add them

Gene Greytak was also the Pope in an ad for Father Dowling Mysteries when it first aired on NBC.

LA Times is reporting today that Gene Greytak has passed away at the age of 89. Back in 2009, the "TV Crossover Hall of Fame" at my blog Inner Toob inducted him as the official televersion of Pope John Paul II.

Eli Stone, if not already in your grid, now belongs there.

Alias' Credit Dauphine was mentioned prominently in the second season premiere. It was of course a joke based around Victor Garber being in both series, but it was treated like a real entity. So I think we are supposed to conclude that its a big cosmic coincidence that Jack Bristow and Jordan Wethersby look identical. Or perhaps Jack, spy that he is, needed a new face at some point in his career and "stole" Wethersby's.

Eli Stone also featured a character employed at The Work Bench, the home improvement super store from Reaper.

do you think these should count anonymous November 21 2008, 15:37:21 UTC
My list currently has about 430 shows on it and combined with whats already on this site that makes over 800 shows connected. However there are still a few things I am on the fence about including ( ... )

Personally, I count both Anthology and Variety shows (I think of them as being sort of "umbrella" titles, where those things within them all link). As such, I connect Mama's Family with Carol Burnett and Honeymooners with Cavalcade of Stars and other Gleason specials, just as I connect components from an anthology. (Of course, I count The Simpsons alongside Tracey Ullman Show, but I connect animation and live action.) I also agree with counting wrestlers--if they are playing their "character," it's a crossover in my book (whether the crossover involves a wrestling plot or not).

As for your question about Big Bird, I consider the Muppets to be characters. One of these days, I'll put together a list of all of the options with Muppet crossovers (just their own series jumps the list considerably). I knew about the Soul Man episode but didn't realize it was treated that way--definitely a crossover in my book. More debateable would be the episode of West Wing--they only refer to Big Bird as a character, but a)it acknowledges Sesame Street ( ... )

Well, as most of you know, my little playground of Toobworld is different from the Westphallian Tommyverse in that I accept all shows are connected until proven otherwise. And if they're not connected, they're in their own alternate dimension (a la 'Sliders') where they could match up with some other show.

For Toobworld, variety shows from our world are usually considered variety shows in TV Land. Characters from sketches exist in a dimension I call "Skitlandia". If those characters show up in a sitcom or drama later, fine, then that incarnation is part of Toobworld. (A good example - Dan Aykroyd as the fridge repairman from a Nerds sketch on SNL showed up in an episode of 'The Nanny'.)

Just about every puppet from TV is considered alive, unless treated otherwise. I think the Muppets who appeared on 'The West Wing' are just puppets, not alive; but then again, 'The West Wing' is off in its own dimension due to the different President.

Bored you enough yet? LOL

Thanks Hugh and Toby I am going to include them on my list, which now has 485 shows on it, combined with the shows already listed this should put me over my goal of 1000 shows

by the way do you know of any other SNL crossovers besides the ones previously mentioned or spin-offs like the Naked Trucker and T-Bone Show

When I am finished with adding all these shows I am going to post the list on a site like tvtropes.org for every one to see

Unrelated to this post, but I had a question which I figured one of you would be able to answer, being so well-versed with crossovers and all.

(I'm about to make a fool out of myself; watch)

I read somewhere that Scott Bakula ended his reoccurring role on Murphy Brown by "leaping"--like his character on Quantum Leap. I don't know if this means he actual "leapt", or if it was just a metareference, in which case it wouldn't be a true crossover, of course--

Does anyone have any additional information? Perhaps a video clip?

Thanks.
