Hello, My sister evernakedani said that I could ask you a question about taxes... if this is the wrong livejournal then you can stop reading now and delete it... Okay... taxes... I work for my school (ECC) and I get paid 950 dollers a semester. They don't take taxes out so now I have to pay (I assume.) My friend call H&R Block and they said that because they sent us a 1099 form that indicates that I am self employed. Not too sure what that means either. I am only 18 and this is my first time filing taxes. Now... I also work for Mickey Dee's and they took everything out and sent me a W-2 form... I should be getting money back from that... but everyone I talk to says I will have to owe money from the 950 that I got from my school... What do I do? And you have any estimate on how much I will have to pay because I get numbers from 30 dollers to 400... Help me?

You're in the right place.. Ok, if you work for ECC as a student employee, then you should receive a 1099 or W-2 from the University; unless its aid under the work study programe. If it is then that money I believe is covered under the 1098-T you received from the university.. Which you can take the part of the 1098-T monies minus the grants you received as an education deduction
