It's nice to see, in the wake of the NC piece. A friend of mine from NC posted one of those "your ecards" saying "Congratulations to John Edwards and the Charlotte Bobcats for no longer being the most embarrassing things about North Carolina" along with a note saying that the state charter's ban on interracial marriage enacted in 1875 stayed until the new consititution was adopted in 1971. I hope we don't have to wait that long.
And I'll admit it right here: I'm terrified MD is going to do the same thing, and this summer-fall I'm sure is going to make me very ashamed of my state and potentially my country. I'm really terrified. I know I'm going to cry long and hard if these rights get turned down.
A referendum is a serious possibility in Maryland, and I will fight the hell out of it. I volunteered to do canvassing work for Obama in Virginia, but I may have to shift that to Maryland.
