When someone tells you, "you deserve someone better than me" it really means that they don't like you as much as you like them.

They should say, I don't like you as much as you like me and you deserve someone that likes you as much as you like me.

yeah I agree with you. I don't know why people can't just step up and say what they really feel. It would make it so much better. I know I prefer honesty over sugar-coating everything.
