I don't know. My personal take on the situation is that it more stems from a combination of overzealous fat/self-acceptance (where "fat" and "self" are becoming more and more synonymous) as well as "player-hating" on skinny girls. It makes me sick when overweight people give skinny people shit.
Barnes-Jewish hospital (the one associated with WashU) has special rooms with floor-level lighting, so when the patient's bulk eclipses normal room lighting, they can still see obstacles in their path. (Two problems with the logic of this. Can you find them?)
2) Who really wants to see a fat person illuminated from their 'underbelly'
3) Obese people shouldn't be allowed to have non-obese people go out of their way to design special lighting for them. If fatty had to do a situp/pushup to regain verticality every time fatty tripped over a poorly illuminated obsticle, maybe fatty wouldn't be fat anymore.
1) If you're that fat, you can't see the floor no matter how well-lit it is
2) People that fat who are in the hospital are definitely not walking around. Lord knows it's hard enough to get people to exercise when they're healthy.
(And a corollary to your 3): Agreed. Also, fat people are extra padded. They should be encouraged to use that bulk for SOMETHING, like a landing zone.)

Gone are the days when people actually gave a fuck what they looked like.

30% of the population has become unhealthily over-obsessed with how they look, and 30% of the population has become obsese.
The really sad part is these two sets are not necessarily non-overlapping.
