I hate Linux so much

I need a very efficient, run-in-the-background mp3 player for my laptop. I have Ubuntu and Gnome, and I would prefer one that looks very much like classic Winamp. I don't want any of these damn iTunes clones.

its called xmms, and its not in ubuntu. Either build it from source or apt-get bmp for beep-media-player

also try

apt-cache search mp3

there are tons of players for the console

Also there is VNC which has a minimalist interface but is different layout wise than winamp

if you really wanna get your nerd on, http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/wiki/Main_Page

version 2 of it, handles big ass libraries & streaming media a lot better, especially on slower boxes - uses winamp skins too

mpg123 was the fastest 5+ years ago. It is command-line, of course.

foobar 2k. Plays pretty much anything, if set up right. Very simple skin too.
