as your fingers grip the edge
you can feel the strain
on your mind, your composure
pulling, ever harder.
Solitary in the centre of the crowd,
frozen in perpetual motion,
doing your best to help others
while knowing you can't help yourself;
holding yourself in contempt for being human,
and as you're told the truth,
you breathe, and you realise
that you need to hold on to this,
if 'this' will get you through.
Survive - keep them alive.
