If Apple is truly going to start marketing their products in Wal-Mart (or are you teasing and I've taken the bait?:), then they truly are falling ....

Apple stopped being actually cool some time ago, I think. Things just do. Jobs dying may have been some of it because work hard to create a cult, then lose the leader and that's it. But also the fanboy stuff just reached a tipping point. It became a tad creepy and embarrassing. camping out for days to get a new model spells loser in any language. Saturate the market and no matter how special the product some of the sheen shakes off. The revelation about the working conditions in the factories in China revealed they were as grubby as everyone else and, ironically, rather flew in the face of such beautiful design. They seemed to try and rectify that with the frankly bizarre ' Designed in California by Apple' ads which were massively misjudged. They drew attention to it, seemed desperate and out of date. California isn't seen as hip anymore.
Maybe it's just their fat Elvis period.

I agree

Apple deserved a premium..and a right to call the shots on things like marketing...when its products (the iPhone and iPad, especially) we "special"...when there was no competition

iPhones are no longer "special"...Smartphones are becoming a commodity. Everyone has one..and the competition has all the same features...in some cases the features are better

And so...the premium price of the iPhone must come down,,and the marketing, too, needs to change to include the Walmarts of the word
