So, uhh, I got these two on the brain a lot. And I had this convo in my head that happened while I was chatting to this_is_cd and okay, don't know if it makes much sense but I wrote it out and here it is.

one two three four five ___
jailbird songs!verse, kihae, post-epilogue, pg-13, ~900 words.

Kibum gets a letter in the mail from Harvard and reads it with a smile on his lips.

"They want me to go do a lecture there next month," he tells Donghae later that evening.

"You going to go?" Donghae asks.

"I don't know, I'm pretty busy. Still, it'd be nice. I love being in that studious atmosphere." Kibum sighs. "I miss college sometimes."

"Why? You learned everything you need to know already," Donghae says with a shrug.

"You can never learn enough," Kibum argues.

"Well, there's more important things one can learn about," Donghae replies as he begins to flip through a magazine, looking almost too nonchalant.

"Life?"

"A certain kind of life."

"..A good life?"

"Oh, it's a good life."

Kibum looks at Donghae. "Exactly what are you saying?"

"If I was learning, I'd want it to be something more hands-on than, I don't know, Psychology, that's all," Donghae says.

"Like what? Flowers?" Kibum asks.

"Certain kinds of flowers, yes."

"Certain kinds .. what does that even mean?"

Donghae merely smiles.

"Oh, I get it," Kibum says, grinning knowingly now. "You're talking about .."

"Sex?" Donghae interrupts. "That's pretty important, to learn about - what's more important than reproduction? It has its own school subject in some countries. What other information has that?"

"Um, lots of information has its own school subject," Kibum says. "Like Psychology."

"Or sex," Donghae says.

"You said sex twice," Kibum replies.

Donghae looks up from his magazine. "Not now, Kibum."

"No, you said, you said there's nothing more important to learn about than sex."

"There's lots of things more important to learn about, I'm sure."

"Such as..?"

"Sex?"

Kibum is quiet for a while, not sure whether Donghae's tricking him or if his brain has gotten into some sort of weird loop mode where every two minutes it's the same conversation. Groundhog Minute.

"You seem tense," Donghae says, a shade of worry in his voice. "Everything alright?"

"I'm fine," Kibum says and suddenly feels annoyed Donghae is tricking him, because they should be beyond that, beyond such weird little mind games and maybe Donghae thinks it's funny how easy it is to throw him off, but it's not funny and--

--and Donghae's hand is reassuringly wrapped around his shoulders, lips brushing against the end of his jaw line.

"I'm fine!" Kibum repeats and it comes out kind of loud, and Donghae looks surprised.

"You sure? You seem really weird these days, and you mention sex a lot. Are you trying to tell me something?" Donghae asks, and another reassuring, comforting hand touches Kibum, this time on his knee, moving up his thigh..

"It's you who keeps mentioning sex," Kibum says irritably, and slightly turned on-ly and he has a hard time deciding which so he decides to be a little of both.

"So you keep hearing me mention sex, huh?" Donghae says calmly. "That's an odd sort of problem.."

"I, I'm going to bed," Kibum says, and decides he's more irritated than turned on, so he adds, "alone."

"Reverse psychology is so old, Kim Kibum," Donghae says and pulls Kibum close before he can stand up, and then Kibum decides it's probably better to be turned on than irritated, and even if Donghae plays games with him it's because, well, it's because he's Donghae and it's maybe how they're supposed to function together, oddly perfect and all that cliché shit.

"Hey," Donghae says somewhere between removing Kibum's shirt and working at his own belt buckle.

"What?"

"Lesson one of sex: stop friggin' thinking."

"Okay, okay," Kibum says, out of breath and leans in to kiss Donghae while his hand slides inside Donghae's jeans.

**

"I really wonder," Kibum says sometime afterwards, "what it means, but I think the main point is, you shouldn't say 'sex' so much. It's unhealthy."

"You should stop hearing what you want to hear," Donghae says casually and picks up his magazine once again.

"So it's my problem?"

"I know it's not my problem."

"I really hate you sometimes," Kibum says, and doesn't mean it at all.

"I wonder what websites dolphins would surf," Donghae says pensively.

"Porn?" Kibum offers.

"Whale sounds," Donghae decides with a tone of satisfaction.

"Want to do it again?" Kibum asks.

"When is Flipper on?" Donghae asks. "Oh, and you should do that Harvard lecture."

"I know, I think I might," Kibum says. "Sex?"

"When did you become such a raging nympho?" Donghae wonders out loud.

"That's my problem," Kibum replies as he pushes Donghae down on the sofa. "But thanks."

"For what?" Donghae asks.

"Everything," Kibum says and isn't really sure what that means, only that even when the most questionable changes have occurred to him and he knows better than to change like this, be so affected by Donghae in this manner, he still knows it's probably the happiest he'll ever be.
