Did you know Kangin used to be chubby? Well,
apparently he did.
And naturally I am crazy enough to fic it.
gain/lose
kangteuk or chubs!kangin/likes-big-butts!eeteuk, pg, ridiculously fluff, none of this happened, circa 1,000 words. I'm still trying to find my KangTeuk muse so apologies if this feels OOC to anybody. Using real names for pre-debut scenes. Yup.
This is how it begins.
“Do you know Kim Youngoon?” somebody asks Jungsu and he shakes his head.
“Who is he?”
“He's the trainee on a diet.”
“Everybody is on a diet,” Jungsu laughs, smiling widely but a little mirthlessly still.
That somebody looks at him pointedly, pausing. “Yes, but he's fat.”
Fat. No nice way of putting it, but when Jungsu first sees Kim Youngoon, he recognizes the boy immediately.
Fat. Exiting the dance studio as Jungsu is entering it. No nice way of putting it.
Sweat pearls on his forehead, and Kim Youngoon smiles at Jungsu. “Hello.”
“Hello,” Jungsu replies stupidly and lowers his gaze when he realizes he's staring; not because Youngoon is fat, but because he looks good.
*
The next time he manages to choke out his own name. Youngoon smiles, and is quiet for a second.
“Would you like to go eat something?” Jungsu says before he realizes how it must sound.
Youngoon just laughs, and it's a nice sound so Jungsu laughs with him, as if he meant it to be a joke.
He finds out Youngoon talks a lot and smokes (but he's trying to quit, and yet he buys a pack when he walks home with Jungsu - it's not really Jungsu's direction but he doesn't mind walking a little extra).
*
Jungsu's hands can fit around Youngoon when they hug.
He strokes his own hands instead of Youngoon's back, because that would just be weird. Youngoon moves a little, and it occurs to Jungsu maybe it's weird that he strokes anything at all while hugging Youngoon, and he pulls away to meet Youngoon's smile.
“Let's get food,” Youngoon says, and it's a joke. It's not really funny but Jungsu laughs a ton anyway.
*
When they get cast in the same group, Youngoon's diet gets worse but the results are showing, too. He practises dancing more than all of the members together, and eats only vegetable side dishes and his stomach constantly makes noise that he apologizes for.
Jungsu wants to slip him something greasy and delicious, but he ends up lowering the chopsticks and eating the things himself. There's a faint sadness on Youngoon's face whenever he looks over the side dishes and has to pick the blandest ones, but by the end of the meal, he seems fine again.
He smokes more, and when Jungsu points it out, he apologizes profusely.
Jungsu slips his arms around Youngoon to assure him it's okay and his hands meet over Youngoon's stomach and this time he allows himself to touch. He strokes the stomach through Youngoon's shirt and only stops when Youngoon starts laughing.
“It tickles,” Youngoon says and Jungsu pulls away, awkward, but Youngoon turns around and pulls him back into a hug where they're facing each other.
“Thank you,” is whispered against Jungsu's shoulder.
*
By the end of the summer, Youngoon is far from fat. The members joke, “Where's Kangin?” when they walk into a studio to practise all together.
Jungsu is Eeteuk now, and he's the leader and he feels responsible, but in a good way. Like he's meant for this.
Kangin and Eeteuk. With those names they draw closer to each other, and Kangin, more comfortable in his own body now perhaps, kisses Eeteuk after a photo shoot of some sort, kisses and doesn't turn it into a joke. Neither does Eeteuk, though, and maybe it's a little too appropriate what with the fans labelling them the parents of Super Junior, but it's been about them since way before Super Junior, so none of that matters.
*
If Kangin ever asks, Eeteuk first fell in love with him this time after moving in with the members that Kangin padded to Eeteuk's room, carrying food. “I know you're busy. Hankyung made this. Thought you might like it.”
Alternatively, it was the time after their debut performance that Kangin pulled him into a hug so tight he nearly choked, but loved it, and realized then he didn't want to ever let go.
The first one's too ordinary, and the second one is too cliché but both would work. They're handy half truths. He knows Kangin isn't too keen on remembering times, dates (or maybe he was just drunk when he SMS'ed Eeteuk on New Year's Day 2007, “Happy 2006 Teukie ^^!”) so he doubts Kangin will ever ask, anyway, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
In reality Eeteuk thinks he fell in love at “Hello”, entering the dance studio, Kangin back when he was Youngoon, his smile and eyes, and all of him, all of it. Everything that Jungsu (Jungsu, Eeteuk, Jungsu) could fit his arms around, everything that Eeteuk still does.
And maybe that's cliché, or desperate, or just plain weird, and so Eeteuk doesn't share it, keeps it to himself, and just smiles when Kangin jokes, “Remember when I was fat?”.
“You weren't fat.”
“And Heechul's never moody. So you don't remember?”
Help me remember. “I remember we met.”
“When I was fat.”
“Just that we met.”
“..and I was fat. How can you not remember?” Kangin sounds almost hurt.
“I could fit my arms around you. You weren't that fat.”
“I'm changing my name on your cell phone into 'my sweet fat friend Youngoon'.”
Kangin's hand moves to stroke Eeteuk's side, and Eeteuk settles his head against Kangin's shoulder.
“Okay,” he says, and slips his own arms around Kangin, and falls asleep like that, faint sounds coming from Kangin messing with his cell phone somewhere in the background of his dreaming.
