I have that problem with the Rennie Bus (Dodge 3500 RamVan). Every part is specialized and/or comes as a (non-separated) set. I had to order a completely new mirror JUST TO GET THE DAMNED SPECIALIZED SCREW I NEEDED! Grrr...
Some thoughts: Cadillac/GMC dealership may let you order just the specific part? ...or AutoZone? ...or (as I have done for some parts) there are places on the net (once you have a name for the piece) where it scans member junkyards across the US, finds your part, and lets you know the price (that way, you're working nationwide?)
Don't give up, hon. Really. Try to find out the exact name of what it's called. You'll find someone that will work with just the part.
Oh, my dear, I wish. I'd have to cannabalize a perfectly good steering column to get the part. The car is almost 20 years old, so no help from GMC/Cadillac. Autozone sent me to a junkyard where the owner actually laughed at me
( ... )
also it sounds like you are stressing your self out by looking at the whole project, pick a section/part/goal and worry only about that (this is how i get through a whole semester at school lol)
I've made myself a list of things that need to be done, but it's a long list.
-Cover the car, to prevent further deterioration. (done) -Repair current deterioration. (done) -Make the car safely driveable again. -Get car into a covered building with a non-dirt floor. -Remove damaged body panels. -Repair damaged body panels. -Re-install body panels. -Paint car. -Repair/Replace cloth top. -Repair/replace exterior detailing. -Restore upholstery. -Repair interior panels.
After that, anything else is optional. The list you see above is the chronological order in which I've got to restore this thing. The costs are incalculable, at present, simply because I don't want to think about it.
I have no intention of giving up. If this works, I'll get a skull and crossbones painted on the hood, and I'll drive it to Invasion. Somewhere.
