Procrastination reaches a new low

Jan 31, 2007 13:30

megamole has posed a very difficult question in his LJ about the identification of small orange citrus fruits, so just for him.....here are some pictures of one of the oranges from my local shop, which are the nicest fruit I have eaten in a long time. Tomorrow I shall have definitive information about the indentification of this fruit.

Clementine, Satsuma, Tangerine, or Mandarin? )

Very fascinating! :p I think it's a clementine. Or wasn't that a question? ;)

It's a Naartjie, of course. (South African word. Applies to any small, orange, easy-peeling citrus fruit).

Until I left Australia in 1993 I only ever knew those things as mandarins. I was bamboozled to see them labelled as satsumas and clementines when I arrived in England.

I think Aussies now use more than just the word mandarin, but I'm not sure. I have very few conversations about small orange-coloured fruit.

All that aside, I'm pretty sure what you have is not a mandarin. My parents grow mandarins and the skin is not loose and won't come off easily.

Does anyone remember the song Clementine by that little bloke from Take That? It came out in 94 I think. I really liked it.

The discussion about oranges is positively sane compared to a lot of stuff on Livejournal!

I'm actually not playing the viola much until after my A2 recital which is early in March (see my journal for more info). What interests me about string playing is tone quality, not just playing the notes (that's what piano is for :-) ). So with my teacher I'm doing in one sense the opposite of you - going right back to basics, not bothering with any pieces, and just concentrating on things like bow-hold.

Um I'm not actually showing on your friends list...if you have changed your mind that's OK (shame tho!)
