Do US people seriously not use the term "Wanker"?

A lovely, genteel 55 year old lady on the scoliosis support group just asked us if it was a really bad word, cos used it to describe someone in front of her attorney and he wet himself laughing in shock >:D She'd picked it up from her "friends over the pond" but didn't know what it meant....

It's amusing using words like "wanker", "tosser", "pillock" and so forth when they are not understood. I think those Americans around me that hear this just like the sound of the word even if they don't know exactly what it means ( ... )

I don't even say "the dog's bollocks" - if something's good I'll just say it's "the bollocks". That must be so confusing to non-Brits cos obviously, if something is rubbish it is "bollocks"!!!

Heh, we will often say something is "shit" if it's bad, but "the shit" if it's super good.

I would ask what "wank" means but I just read up on SSO and found out. Very interesting...we usually just call someone a "Jack off" and it means a similar thing. ;)
