A couple of weeks ago I took some leave and went driving around Shropshire with Ian, since I had a hospital appointment there and Ian was off for half term. Shropshire is probably my favourite place on earth; it's beautiful and peaceful and I feel a real connection to it since a lot of my ancestors came from there ( Read more... )

Ooh, lovely pictures. The way you describe Shropshire is pretty much how I feel about Wales :)

Mind if I steal the line "Up there you can hear nothing but the wind blow" for a poem at some point?

Gorgeous pictures Toni! Wenlock reminds me of stratford-upon-avon, which I adore!

Very pretty. Have you read Precious Bane? Or any of the novels by Mary Webb?

I guess you've already found out by now, but she's sort of like a female Salopian Thomas Hardy, but without the tragedy (so nothing much like him at all really)... Precious Bane is probably my favourite book of all time. I love it even more than Jane Eyre. Gone to Earth is lovely too.

I really recommend Precious Bane. Prue Sarn is an incredible heroine. She has a hare lip and loves Kester Woodseaves desperately. At the end he kisses her right on the mouth. It's just wonderful. The writing is out of this world.
