"It must feel strange to be home. I remember returning to London after tours with the band and it felt like a movie, and that somehow it was a different city. So much has happened to you since you left there it must seem like a long time ago. Then you bump into people who don't even realize you've been away, and you expect everything to be ( Read more... )

That's pretty much how I feel about it, which is why I usually just tell people, "yeah, I had a great time." I guess my worry in this rant was that I would come across like I felt that what I have to say about the trip, that the "real story" is somehow really important or that people should care about it. And I don't feel this way at all. I mean it is way important to me, but I don't think most people give a shit, as they shouldn't, because it has nothing to do with their lives.

Oh man, I /so/ know how you feel. I've got people coming out of the freaking woodwork to ask me weird questions about /this/ place, and I'm not even /back/ yet.

By the way, I do give a shit, so you should email me your story. Or email me anyway, because I haven't heard from you in a while.

Thanks, miche, I'll send you the memoirs as soon as they're compiled. The same goes to you, if you want to share anything. By the way where is /this/ place? All I know is that it is in the middle east and doesn't end in a Q.

I think the fact of the matter is most people don't REALLY want to know how your trip was(unless they have an extreme personal interest in you like myself) and so maybe coming up with some short curt answer and maybe a funny crowd pleasing anecdote might rememdy the situation?

I know people don't really want to know, that's the whole point. And that's what I've been doing, I certainly haven't been giving everyone who asks a twenty minute answer, I'm not that self centered.

just say:

God, Cambodia was soooo boring. I really just wanted to go to Cancun, but I thought my teaching in Cambodia might look good on a resume someday."

or:

I mean, I got to fuck seven guys, and that was cool and everything. But it just wasn't like here, you know?

or:

shoot them in the forehead, and then go eat a greasy raw hamburger at Orange King to celebrate the only elements of darkness in this country that jackasses who ask if "cambodia was awesome" could understand.

By the way, your homie steve and you got it all right. It is so weird coming home, realizing you've changed, and most don't care! I'll get a hold of you when we figure some plans.
