So, I was reading over the states of consciousness by Freud and there something familiar about it that I could'nt quite put my finger on. Yesterday, while teaching a relationships class, it dawned on me that it was just like John Bradshaw's inner child work- The Adult, The Child and Critical Parent roles. I also saw the same triage in Transactional ( Read more... )

I'm in your cirlcle. Trust me, those who seem as though they are great "scholars" are not (lol). Toni, the truth is, none of us are "great scholars". If we were we would be published authors in Haravard, or yale, based journals. The truth is, some of us may be on the path to becoming "schoars" (I even doubt that) but, right now, we are all on the same plain. I, for one, think you have a lot to offer the circle. I hope you feel confident enought to contribute. Because if you don't we all lose.

Toni,

I like your comparison of Freud's theories and John Bradshaw's inner child work. I see the similarities, too. Remember what the founder of Functionalism said: Information that is personally meaningful is better comprehended and remembered. (William James). I'm down with that.

I'm not especially intellectually literate nor philosophical either and rely on experience rather than data. In fact I've had to re-read the "science" section of psychology because it lost me!

(Have you ever seen the Bradshaw series on PBS? Riveting stuff.)

Looks like your are going to enjoy yourself. I hope that you will enjoy learn more about your great scholars when you see them. Quite possibly you might be able enlighten us about your knowledge. Actually, everyone in class seems to be "knowledgeable" about what Mike is talking about that it is just too much interruption. I did not sign up for this class to listen to ill-legitimate people go on about subjects they, thoses lower-level people, believe they know. I signed up for Professor Michael Dulay.
