So today was/is A's first day of school. She looked super cute in her little outfit, altho I didn't realize her shoes were a little too big and might cause her some problems. I sure hope she doesn't get blisters! I took 3 pics, which I'll post later, 2 at home, and by the flag pole at the school. Yesterday at the open house I used the whole hour ( ( Read more... )

If it is any comfort... stile99 August 9 2007, 22:01:52 UTC
I know, I know, traumatic day for Mom...but if it is any comfort, you guys seem to start school insanely early. I barely noticed when they crept first day of school up into late August, but August 9th? People keep proposing year-round school, people keep shooting it down. Apparently they're going to sneak it in by starting each year earlier and ending it later.

As for my opinion...is more education a bad thing? No, certainly not. But is letting a kid be a kid a bad thing either? Again, certainly not. Just because we've lost our freedom and are shackled year-round doesn't mean we have to take it out on our kids. I think summer break is a great opportunity, developmentally speaking.

that he views k-6 as nothing more than free day care for the kiddos, which was a very strange thing for me to comprehend. Don't get me wrong, they're not learning trig or anything like that, but they are learning the basics, and the basics are a good foundation for the future demands.
And yeah, the whole August 9th thing.. back in my day, we started around the 21st of August, or the first Friday after the 21st. She does get out earlier than I did time-wise, which is nice.
I'm thinking of sneaking in a trip around the 25th if she's not exhausted, just a little day trip to an amusement/water park. Should be fun! But we'll see how she's doing.
