Carrie sat in the sand and listened to the surf. The sun had set behind her ten minutes ago. Her surf board was close by her feet. Her son was bodysurfing in the last of the reflected sunset light. It had been a very long week. She picked up the beer beside her and took a sip ( Read more... )

Thought this was such a tasteful way to process the intersection (ahem...) of a pandemic and the turbulence of social change. You've got such a way of having your characters breathe in the moments in-between...there's palpable weight on all sides of Carrie, but even if there are no answers to the pressure of those impossible forces, you show us that she can breathe, exist, and continue between them. It's a real solace for these days. We can keep riding the wave, whether upright or not!

Also, now I can say that it was great how you and d0gs mirrored and inverted the ways the friends view their roles in the friendship! Lovely way to intersect!

This mutual admiration society that you and d0gs have created between your two characters is great! I enjoy the way that both of the characters see each other through rose-colored glasses that seem to block the good things they might find in their own reflection.

But isn't that the way of things most of the time? We manage to become surrounded by people that constantly see the good in us and it's almost unbelievable to think that they are actually right, considering that we can see the good in them that they can't see in themselves, either.

These two characters really felt like two peas in a pod to me; great job by both of you!

This was such a sweet way to intersect! I adore the name choice of Xena. I am currently rewatching the series from the start with my partner who has never seen it before.

This is a really beautiful unfurling, both in the tender external moment you created to live and rest, but also in the stream of consciousness worrying that we are all subject to, especially in times like these.
