Useful introspection, as far as the process is rational.
However, the view of personal power may be cemented on how much respect the 8 year old child is shown by their main adversary, well and truely prerational. If the child cannot get the adversary to acknowledge them as having a legitimate point of view, the child starts assuming personal inadequacies. I don't yet know how to deprogram that self-esteem blow.

Yeps, I get what you say about rational.

My point was not that this is a rational process - there's a lot more to all this than the rational. To include any realistic representation of that would be a very long journal.

Talking about it is rational though. Managing & responsibility for all our reactions are the purview of executive function.

Much as my inner 8 yo would like to be forever here... I have to tell him to step back sometimes. Time passes & the 8 yo me was not a happy chappie.

Also, I was 10 when I was able to manually take some control of this process. With a bit more luck - I'll be good @ it someday.
