Personality: This is going to be done in two parts: the traits he has similar with Kaoru, and his own specific traits. Putting his shared traits first is just to help set-up the more individualized portion of this section, especially since a lot of it compared against Kaoru. It also should be noted that I'm taking Hikaru from post-anime and sticking to the character development he has there. In the manga, Hikaru undergoes a lot more development, but they will not be included in this section.

Hikaru and Kaoru have a lot of similarities. They fit the "Little Devils Type" of the Host Club to a T. They love to pull pranks, particularly on Tamaki and Haruhi, somewhat reckless, and usually try to make a game out of any situation to make it less boring. Almost everything though is actually calculated and planned. They are also excellent actors, pretending to feel one way and then reveal at the end that they were faking it the whole time. They also will go into things with full energy, but if it drags on too long or they find it not as fun as they initially thought, they will become very apathetic, even dropping the whole project all together. If it looks boring from the start, they won't even bother. They are rather outgoing, though they used to be closed off from the rest of the world. Thanks to the influence of Tamaki, Haruhi, and the Host Club in general, the twins have started to come out of their egg shell, so to speak and interact willingly with the other students and other people rather than just with each other.

Hikaru arguably has the most development of the two twins. In general, he is loud, an ass a jerk, rambunctuous, frank, and usually speaks without thinking. But though he's the older twin and plays the dominant seme role, he actually acts the most childish (mostly due to the aforementioned behavior traits). He can be rather inconsiderate of other people's feelings (though he's working on it!), seeing them more like toys: they are excellent sources of entertainment until they get boring. He generally puts Kaoru above everyone else.

In terms of the twin's relationship with each other, Hikaru is the one who visibly shows his love the most. He loves Kaoru very much, and if anything ever happens he tends to freak out quite a bit. When the vase falls and almost misses Kaoru at the pension house during summer vacation, Hikaru runs over to check he's okay. Even though this act of brotherly love wins them the room for the night, it is shown after that his hand is shaking while holding Kaoru's. This shows that he was genuinely afraid that Kaoru had been seriously injured. Another time is during the Halloween event at the school. When they were separated, Hikaru starts yelling Kaoru's name. Once Haruhi frees them from the net, he instantly bolts through the school searching for Kaoru. Kaoru is also the only one who actually sees Hikaru's real feelings about certain things as he is the only one Hikaru will actually open up to. And even if Hikaru doesn't say anything for some reason or another, Kaoru will pick up on it. If questioned, he'll eventually admit it. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Hikaru. He is not as perceptive about his brother's feelings. In fact he can be rather oblivious to other people's feelings as he never really cared for them before. What mattered to him was just Kaoru.

However, during the course of the series, Hikaru has shown a lot of care for Haruhi. At first he just sees her as something to mess around with like all other people, especially due to her personality and background. But as time goes on, and when Haruhi -- as per usual -- make remarks about the twins relationship and is even able to tell themselves apart, Hikaru finds himself starting to like her more. This runs parallel to his own general acceptance of other people. Unlike the manga, in the anime, it's never really deliberately stated whether or not he loves her, though it is hinted quite a few times.

At the summer pension, Hikaru already shows signs of jealosy when Arai shows up, becoming especially frustrated after Haruhi slaps him for his rude and obnoxious remarks. When they're on their "date" (thanks to Kaoru's meddling), he is enjoying his time even if Kaoru isn't there...until they meet Arai again and Hikaru gets jelaous and pretty much ditches Haruhi. But he redeems himself when he runs through the town trying to find her and help comfort her during the storm rather than make fun of her. And then he "makes up" with Arai in the end, a feat that is actually a lot more important than it might look at first glance. For Hikaru to realize that he was wrong and apologize and be nice to the person takes a lot of growth and maturity, something that he was seriously lacking. It's also important because this is also a sign of Hikaru accepting other people to be around the ones he really cares about it.

Though his jealousy of Arai hanging around Haruhi was partly due to his own unrealized feelings for her, there is another big reason why: he has been so used to being with just Kaoru that he feels a very tight and close bond to those he care about. In his mind, the view has always been just two (or with Haruhi, three) of them and no one else was allowed into that little circle unless he accepts them. They could be kind of hovering on the outside, but when it comes to the center core, only they should be the ones who have a close and friendly relationship. It's still mostly like that, but Hikaru is starting to expand his circle. ...Inch by inch. He will always be overprotective of Kaoru, and is starting to become like that for Haruhi, but he's maturing. If very slowly.

Hikaru is also capable of feeling respect and gratefulness toward other people. This is especially so for Tamaki. Even though he still thinks Tamaki
can be the most oblivious and stupidest person in the world, he recognizes that beneath all that is a guy with a lot of depth and has the ability to bring out what's best in people. Even if he picks on him and even deliberately ignores his commands, he'll eventually follow. Without Tamaki, the twins wouldn't even be in the Host Club and would still be in their small, secluded world. In more ways than one, Tamaki opened the doors for them, and for that, Hikaru wants to help protect what Tamaki has done for them. This can be seen when the president of the newspaper club tries to ruin Tamaki's image, and all of them, including the wins, come to help protect him. Honey pretty much says what they all feel: they love him. And Hikaru also generally feels the same for the other host club members.

To other people, Hikaru seems more like a jerk. But he is slowly becoming more considerate and mature, even if he'll still hide his feelings to everyone but Kaoru.

Oh, and another thing. As Hikaru grew up with a life of complete luxury, all he knows is the life of the rich and looks at the life of commoners with less fervor than the stupid host king Tamaki. He can act like the spoiled rich kid and can be very frank in regards to someone's social status, deliberately or not. Still, he does find some ways of the commoner life interesting and usually treats it like he treats everything else: a game. Thanks to Haruhi he'll want to see what the "commoner life" is like, but not go out of his way on his own. It's only if given the opportunity and he might think it could be interesting. But like everything else, it can get boring fast. If anything, he likes to make fun of it.

Abilities: Since Hikaru is 100% normal human, he doesn't have much in terms of super powered abilities. However, that doesn't mean he doesn't have anything that's worth mentioning.

Other than charming girls, messing with either Tamaki or Haruhi, or pulling pranks in general, Hikaru -- like his brother -- has a good sense of fashion thanks to their upbringing and is also very adept at sports.

...Okay that's all I got.
