I am afraid that it might just be the fact that you are getting older. The older we get, the more money factors into our lives. It allows us to, or keeps us from, accomlishing/doing what we want to do.
We never notice the presence of money and its influence on our lives until we have a lack of it.
I remember the barter system. That was pretty sweet. "I'll give you a lighter still half-full of lighter fluid for two of your eggs," I'd say. "We already have a lighter," was the reply, "but we'll give you two eggs for half of that loaf of cornbread you got from the old lady over there." "Good trade," I'd say, and we'd all leave satisfied.

Hell, I remember when $2 a week from my dad in allowance was all I needed to survive and be happy.
