Okay, correct me if I'm wrong,

But does money seem to be having a more direct influence on everybody's lives lately more than usual?

Just an observation.

I am afraid that it might just be the fact that you are getting older. The older we get, the more money factors into our lives. It allows us to, or keeps us from, accomlishing/doing what we want to do.

We never notice the presence of money and its influence on our lives until we have a lack of it.

At least that is my take on it.

Money's like time. It doesn't exist until it's broken.

... Actually, time IS money. I forgot that part.

The older we get, the more things we need to pay for, the more money we need, the more we work (and become tired, stressed, etc.)

Hell, I remember when $2 a week from my dad in allowance was all I needed to survive and be happy.

I remember the barter system. That was pretty sweet. "I'll give you a lighter still half-full of lighter fluid for two of your eggs," I'd say. "We already have a lighter," was the reply, "but we'll give you two eggs for half of that loaf of cornbread you got from the old lady over there." "Good trade," I'd say, and we'd all leave satisfied.
