As far as namedropping, I found out that it serves a useful purpose later. When both dacubsf and handlebehr passed away, I found it easier to find memories of them on my journal when I had namedropped. That realization makes me want to do it even more than I have been.

At the same time, I can also see the point of people who become annoyed with incessant "I'm very cool, and here's the list of also-very-cool people with whom I rub elbows on a regular basis"-type posts. I guess it's possible for one to mention names without doing so to self aggrandize . . .
