I am not quite sure where the fascination with eating raw fish comes from, but I suspect that it is the adrenaline sport of eating: the bungee-jumping for the dinner table, a death-defying aesthetic that more moderate temperaments shun.
I personally like sushi because it is like getting a box of crayons for dinner. You can't really beat the colors! As for flavor? It's ok. . . more refreshing and natural than anything else. Not as good as a robust gazpacho, but good in its own way.
