There's a really good, fairly short read called "Whatever Happened to Justice" by Robert Mayberry. Quite good. He also has two rules of ethics that are the basis of tort law and criminal law:
1. Do everything you say you will do. (this is the basis for contract law) 2. Do not encroach on another person or their property. (all criminal acts violate this law)
He also discusses the history of justice in a unique way.
