KWAR

Oct 11, 2009 19:32

Even though I only day-tripped, I don't think I've lately had as much fun at an event than I had this past Saturday at KWAR. For expediency (and to keep me from over-thinking this), I'm going to try Liam-style. It's my first time -- be gentle ( Read more... )

1. I liked it. It was good for people who like to do everything (not that I know anyone like that).

3. I'm a little bummed I missed that class after listening to you and artisticpheonix talk about it. It sounds like it was fun!

4. Also like Birka there weren't enough good hangout areas in my opinion.

7. It was good to see you! You should come up for Crown. All the cool kids are going ;)

Check with Collin or I, we liked the one in Denver A LOT. Of course, having Nataliia and Jael to hang out with didn't hurt. :)

Glad you had a good time.

Yes, if finances allow, I LOVE going to KWARS. Yes, they are expensive. I would love to go to the next one with you.

More space is needed for these type of things so that people can hang out. The only problem with hotels is that if you don't know people's room numbers, you can't really party hop and it isn't encouraged. So there is some isolation.

Colorado did a KWAR/KWCS and we saw how successful it was and that's why we encouraged that type of bonding. It definitely makes the event financially feasible.

I am still OHMYGAWD sore from the falling class. I think I probably would have benefited from more introduction, and also a padded mat to do this on. I don't care what the guy had to say, he was way more padded than I am and that does make a difference. But it was interesting to take.

I'm sorry that I missed some of the classes - like Liam's set and the IKA classes. There just wasn't enough time.

"I am still OHMYGAWD sore from the falling class."

Today is the first day my abs don't ache from that class. Hardly felt like I was using them at the time. The whole thing probably would have worked better as a continuous two hour class, but he probably would have drawn even fewer people, then.

It would have worked better if he had mats to fall on. A couple of people who have done akido said "You did WHAT?" ....."without a mat????"

Better now, but I'z has abs of steel now! :-)

Unfortunately, the mentor/student roundtable had a locked door by the time I got there, but other than that, the schedule seemed to alternate between "omigod too many classes I want to take" and "enh ... time to go shopping/fight." Being able to switch from the rapier side to the costuming side was fun, I am a

I wish I'd been able to stay for the whole weekend, some of the sunday classes looked very interesting. Hopefully the disk of "kwar/kwcs proceedings/handhouts" will have enough information.

4. ... And fencing on the too-small mezzanine, with the mundanes watching from the balcony, was just a hoot).

Having the MiC watching from his hotel room was a hoot as well. The only problem was the time it took me to get two floors down to the mezz to correct something. I had a really great view of what it was, though. :)

5. While I understand the special challenges involved in finding a site for an event like this, KWAR was a *really* expensive day trip, especially given that no dayboard was provided (or even subsided hotel-fare available).

Hotel-supplied-food was bandied about, but the cost of the day would have gone up dramatically. I agree, it would have been nicer to have food available that wasn't exorbitant and extra.

There also seemed to be surprisingly few rapier equipment vendors, though maybe I missed them.

You didn't miss them, they weren't there. Like the hotel restaurant, they were not on board with Griff and COllin's estimates of how many people this event was going to draw. Unfortunate.

I said at the time that there should have been ropes hung so we could swing through the atrium. Woulda solved your problem.

That would *totally* have solved it! And made for a far better entrance.
