New York Trip - Day 2

Dec 01, 2008 12:15

Wednesday started out crisp and cold. (All our days in New York were cold but sunny - great for picture taking, horrible in that cross-street breeze!) Since we had matinee tickets but no evening shows planned, I went to the TKTS booth to see what I could get cheap seats to. No dice, though - no discounted tickets for Wednesday night performances. So MIL had the idea of seeing the show that was right in the hotel - White Christmas. We picked up tickets and headed out for the morning.

Breakfast was at Galaxy Cafe. No pictures, I'm afraid. It was standard fare, though - eggs, pancakes, etc. and quite good! After that we went on a bit of a ramble, ending up at the M&M Store:

Lunch was McDonald's. Yes, really. Again, no pictures, because it was McDonald's. Then it was time to split up for out 2:00 matinees.

MIL and Miguel went to see The Little Mermaid, I went to Forbidden Broadway. Miguel loved his show, which near as I can tell mirrored the movie pretty closely - many of the actors wore Heelys which gave them the ability to glide as though they were swimming. Pretty clever, I thought. Mine was very funny - a send-up of lots of different Broadway shows. I loved the Spring Awakening and Wicked bits especially.

The afternoon was a bit of a lazy affair - we lounged around the room, feeling guilty that we weren't taking advantage of all New York has to offer - but it was bloody cold! Around dinnertime we went up to the revolving restaurant on top of the hotel. This was a limited access floor, so the elevator was packed with diners. Did I mention I'm terrified of heights? Also, elevators? Anyway. Dinner was lovely, if way overpriced and too chi-chi. The service was great and the view was phenomenal.

A short (terrifying) elevator ride later, we were at the Marquis Theatre for White Christmas. It was what you would expect - big musical/dance numbers, fast-talking cast, a real winner of a show. Miguel's favorite part was when it snowed on the audience at the end, although he argued that it wasn't "real" snow.

After that, we rode the elevator up to our rooms and hit the hay.
