does anybody use livejournal any more? or is it just me and my friends that have pretty much abandoned it and moved on to facebook and twitter and *shudder* myspace? if you've moved on to myspace you're no friend of mine, but i'm just curious because my friends page has been ridiculously quiet for a long time now, and i've certainly not been ( Read more... )

I've been thinking about this for awhile and I really miss the internet circa 2003, before fb/twitter brain pollution bullshit and even before myspace became widely popular. I think their combined might killed off friendslists forever. The only aspect they haven't yet managed to mar, in my opinion, is the LJ community. None of my friends ever update, but communities are still active as ever....so I guess that's good.

I think I'm one of the last holdouts that still loves LJ deeply and still enthusiastically uses it. :(

I actually agree. I managed to stay away from MySpace because I loathe it, but a lot of my friends started to peel off from LJ during it's height of popularity. I've come to like Facebook and Twitter for their own reasons (Facebook more-so, Twitter is just a toy), but I really miss being able to easily pour out 3 pages of rambling in the morning, and then just a silly picture in the afternoon, and a quick update at night. No character, or content, limits. I was sure who would read it, and liked seeing their replies ( ... )

One feature I loathe about FB is the fact that your reply, meant to be directed at one person, gets mailed out to every single person in that entire thread of comments. In turn, your inbox will get flooded with all sorts of erroneous spam and comments from people you don't even know, or care to know.

Also, I met a few of my closest friend via LJ before the myspace boom, when you had to have a paid account to use the directory. I just searched local folks and serial added them, and the rest is history. :P You can't do that with FB! Ahhhhh, I miss those days.

I hate that too. I mean I get that they want it to be social and to introduce you to new people and all that; but just adding a little checkbox that says "email me responses to this post", even if it's checked by default, would be wonderful. Sometimes I just want to call someone a douche and let that be the end of it.
