K-Street on HBO - a 'supposedly' insiders look at political consulting and national politics

ALERT - DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THE EXCERPTS FROM THE FIRST SHOW!!!

ok, i accidently posted in info junkies and immediately deleted so as not to post any 'give aways' in their community, so now i'm rewriting it and posting it here . . .

sort of a 'cinema verite' type of show - grainy video - awkward cuts (even jump cuts - egad!), although as we can see from the article posted in infojunkies, there is a director with 'hands on'. i felt the show was a little too vague / empty, but maybe that's what you get with something so quickly dabbed together (if, indeed, they aren't scripting it too heavily - too hard to tell yet) . . .

the first episode had too little character development, threw in a new 'mysterious' (if not bizarre) new 'hire' forced upon the firm ( he had sort of a 'Keyser Söze?' type of name -[actually, it was Francesco Dupree'] ) - but this was no 'the usual suspects' - his 'job interview' was painful to watch, not funny - just loopy and goofy, contrived and too stupid, IMO

it is only 30 minutes, they need 60, but with the way they're trying to do it - perhaps it just isn't possible.

we'll probably see something about mary matlin's assistant's love life along the way, that was 'teased' a bit . . .

carville's associate is apparently on the edge . . . so, something will come out there, too

it was interesting to see Howard Dean participating (along with the consultant and gadfly Paul Begala) . . . perhaps this is supposed to be more of Dean's 'i'm the outsider' strategy? it made him look more like an insider - especially when he's throwing out canned lines from his 'handlers' - but, that's the way it is, i guess... i wonder what made them decide to participate?

re: begala -- good lord, i'm pretty liberal, and i think my hand would feel greasy if i shook Begala's hand - yuck -- think of the handshake between George and Mr. Potter in 'It's A Wonderful Life' - remember when he pulled his hand back as if he'd touched something dirty? well, I'd be George and Begala is Mr. Potter - that's my take on him (no, i don't see myself as george, either - just a metaphor offered up there) -- EDIT: a shrill shill - that's the phrase i was looking for here - he wasn't really shrill in the episode, but seeing him on TV so many times - his pompous, loud 'act' - he's the liberal 'mini-me' version of rush limbaugh (without the humor - i know, that's a cut, but he makes my flesh crawl), i can't help but project that image upon him

further, there are a lot of 'name' politicos in the mix on this show - this could be a very fun and interesting series . . . we'll see :o)

if you saw it, please share what you thought of the show
