I feel that I need to apoligise for my stupid journal entries and being insensitive to what's going on. The amount of devastation hadn't hit me yet, but a couple of nights ago I read through a few news articles of personal stories and there I was, bawling my head off and cursing the world.
you wouldn't understand why they want to rebuild because you're not from there. that city means more to most louisianians than the average person can comprehend. it's like our own personal 9/11, except it wasn't terrorists (or the government, or whoever you choose to blame). we're angry but we have no one to be angry at.
the land was livable, obviously, because people were living there, and they will continue to live there. it will cost about 30 billion to rebuild the city, plus another 14 billion to put in protection against such disasters as this. 14 billion that was declared unnecessary or "not worth it" a few years ago. it's worth it now.
