Kaiba looked at himself in the mirror. His reflection told of just how far he was willing to go to make sure that Pegasus was not favouring Zeigfried and his company over KaibaCorp. The way he had left things with Pegasus the last time he saw him, and this party made him incredibly nervous, nervous enough that he was willing to do this ( ... )

Pegasus had been taking it slow for the rest of the week after his misfortunate racket ball incident, staying at home and using the preparations for the party as an excuse. However that had somewhat backfired on him now that he actually looked out over the packed courtyard where guests were still arriving and milling about ( ... )

Zeigfried smiled winningly at the throng as Pegasus made his speech. All the while, Kaiba tried not to fiddle with the blonde wig he was wearing. Not too bright of course, he was trying not to get noticed, and in this crowd he should be able to remain unnoticed, as long as he didn't catch the eye of anyone who really knew him. And that meant staying away from Pegasus and Zeigfried.

The latter was laughing happily as Pegasus pushed him forward, quite enjoying the attention, lapping it up. It was his birthday, of course he was going to enjoy himself. So many pretty things here today, and the lush roses. he was a very happy man today.

Kaiba scowled, then reminded himself that doing just that would make him stick out like a sore thumb. He had to play the part and spy. Kami-sama the things he was willing to do for his company. He found this the most disturbing so far.

The guests were escorted by Pegasus staff through to the opulence of the ballroom and out to the gardens beyond. Pegasus himself waited behind with Ziegfried while the champagne started flowing and the tea and sweets were served.
"I think we've got ourselves a record turn out for a tea party Ziggy-boi. You're just too popular these days, my gardens are never going to be the same."
Pegasus said with mock lamentation, thinking of the lovely afternoon he could be out there painting japanese iris that were instead likely going to be trodden on or thrown up on by the evening. His peaceful reclusive castle was absolutely overrun and it brought up unpleasant memories from his Duelist Kingdom days.

It was a beautiful sunny summers day much like the one before it, however this one came with the noise of a clean up crew and the slow exidous of party guests that were still waking up ( ... )

Kaiba had woken, stiff and sore from the various trials of the previous evening, though far more clear headed. It was nice to wake to see a friendly face in Isono when he was in such a strange place, and had the feeling of being in the lion's den ( ... )

"My goodness, look what the blue eyes dragged in."

Pegasus perked up some as Kaiba appeared, he peered at him with a smirk over the top of his comic book, trying not to look as eager as he was for some company that wasn't here to nag at him about healthy eating.

"You don't have to stand there, do sit down and help yourself to some brunch. There's no reason we can't be civilized despite the bruises."

Pegasus teased him somewhat since Kaiba was limping while he was lounging. He pointed to the round wrought iron table next to him with two chairs. it was laid out with a good deal of food from waffles to fruit salad and yogurt, to some very fancy looking gourmet omlette. There was a basket of danish and croissants. And of course Pegasus sugary box of breakfast cereal that he hadn't yet touched.

He didn't look like he was going to get up any time soon to try any of it himself. He simply turned another page of his comic and waited to see what Kaiba would do.

Kaiba rolled his eyes but figured he deserved that opening comment. He sighed inwardly at the teasing, offering a strained smile.

"Yes, civilised. If only people had been civilised last night." He muttered.

Terrible bad manners attempting to kill someone and all that. He did limp over, and was glad to sit down now that he had the invitation. The food did look tempting, but he didn't like things hanging over him so looked to Pegasus.

"I figure I owe you an... well a couple of explanations." And apologies too.

Kaiba rolled his eyes.

"There are plenty of things I don't complain about." He grumbled, setting the chocolates to one side for now.

Zeigfried, for all he was rather upset at Kaiba for a multitude of reasons, could not take his eyes off Pegasus. Being coy like this he really was too delicious. If they were alone and he was being this coy he would have pounced him. But they were not of course, but oh it was sinful watching him eat.

"Of course I shall bring you some more. How about I come by next week with a delivery, just for you?" He said with a smile.

Any excuse to get close to Pegasus. He'd make him forget Kaiba yet.

Kaiba on the other hand found himself rather fascinated watching Pegasus twirl a ringlet round his finger like that. For some reason he liked it, found it enjoyable to watch. Hmm, the air conditioning could do with being a notch lower in here, not that he was going to say anything.

"I have plans to be at a conference in New York next week, but perhaps you'd like to meet up there instead? We could go shopping, maybe even catch a show between meetings?"

Pegasus suggested helpfully. He was sure that someone from Ziegfrieds company would be at that conference and he liked to encourage him to get out more.
He was filling a crystal plate with a few cookies now, pink fluffy macaroons and something looking vaguely chocolate chip. He brought a chocolate dipped lady finger up to his mouth for a quick nibble before he set it down, turning to Kaiba then,

"You're not going to be at the conference too are you Kaiba-boi?"

He was a little worried about Kaiba traveling. He usually didn't and this time it had only gotten him into trouble. But it would be nice to see him there too, he needed to get in on the American market more and just generally live a little.

Zeigfried was positively beaming. Any excuse the be round Pegasus and he would run with it. His family would only be too happy he was volunteering for anything to do with work and the company, and the invitation to do things socially together was more than he could have dreamed of. Not to mention the idea that Kaiba would not be there because it was here in the US.

"I would love to, it would bring delight in the midst of all the company stuffiness. None of the executives really know how to enjoy themselves as I am sure you know."

Though they were looking to Kaiba who shrugged, wondering why he was feeling warm, and why watching Pegasus nibble a biscuit for some reason made his heart speed up. he wasn't feeling quite right.

"I hadn't decided. I think it depends on what I find and how fast in regards to last night's attack. I may well be very busy."

Zeigfried made a mental note to make sure he would be very busy.

Pegasus nodded to Ziegfried but he was more concerned with Kaibas answer.

"Yes, of course. If you need any help, you will let me know? I've a score to settle there as well."

He'd put his plate of cookies aside and place a warm hand on Kaibas shoulder. He looked at him with genuine concern and a dark glimmer in his make-up lined eye.
Pegasus would bring down hell on whoever had dared to come onto his island and harm one of his guests. Even if it were someone completely random and not kaiba at all, the principle of the thing would be all the drive he needed. But the fact that it was kaiba and the boy had so many things in life turn against him already, Pegasus being unfortunately one of them, made him want to protect him all the more.

The steady wash of waves against white sand beach and the calls of turns spinning through sun bleached skies above grew louder as Croquet made his was down the shady path at the edge of the woods towards the beach house. There were steps carved into the rock of the cliff in some places but it was all done to a scale of safety that would keep even Pegasus on his most drunken binge from stumbling or loosing sight of a wrought iron railing. Croquet swept down these stairs at a resolute pace, an inevitable grey tide without pause for anything but his assigned task ( ... )

While inside Kaiba was now wallowing in a cold bath, which was giving him some ease from what was burning through his system, and would take a while yet before he felt safe to face anyone without embarrassment, outside his security staff had formed a perimeter ( ... )

"It would seem Mr.Kaiba is unusually paranoid today, even with his 'trusted' security staff present."

Croquet commented dryly with a pointed glance towards the beach house. It was uncharacteristic to say the least, not to mention rather ridiculous to lock all the doors when they were already on an island with armed men standing guard.

"Having difficulties Mr. Isono? Perhaps there's something I could help you with."

Croquet was aware that he and his staff, if considered the enemy, would be an overwhelming threat. But since he had been at tea and didn't see any reason for Kaiba to feel particularly threatened by Pegasus he was curious as to what the sudden problem was.

Isono gave Croquet a scathing look.

"No difficulties. Master Kaiba is feeling indelicate, and very much desires privacy, that is all."

Though Seto had not told him what was going on, certain things had been gathered as his master had stormed back to the beach house.

"I rather gather Mr Von Shroider had something to do with it. Considering how they are with each other, some sort of trick that has left him feeling unwell. I am certain it will pass. Is there some sort of message I should pass on to him?"
