035. BLIND, HEECHUL/SHIWON

there are a lot of things shi won found in passing, passing heechul for just a moment or just an hour or just a day, little things that built up and accumulated and finalized to this. shi won felt the skip in the beat of his heart and he felt his face flush and maybe old legends told by grey-haired men to their grandchildren on front porches said this is how it feels to truly love someone- this is how you know. the start of something great is like having a panic attack. flying, blind, fleeting, soaring, scared, but warm.
shi won knows their hands feel nice together and heechul's lips are like home, another home somewhere far off from the original, over the hills and down a stone path where the sun sets into the earth like candles burning into hot orange and twilight blue wax- but maybe this isn't love. maybe they've been through almost too much in their lives and there isn't a capacity in their hearts to try to make this turn into love. the funny thing, shi won can tell, is that it feels a lot like love should- no pressure to be someone else as their eyes meet and a distinct flutter in the stomach with a soft gasp for air.
they could say a lot of things. a lot of words could be exchanged about how this feels, how it started, where it might end up- but they don't speak them. there's no need. just being in the moment and being here now and being together is enough, it'll always be enough, it speaks for itself. but the tiny worry in the back of shi won's mind lies restless sometimes at night, it wakes him up, like a nightmare centered on a fragile ghost who has lost her way home. maybe heechul will stop sharing a bed, stop holding shi won's hand, stop letting him in.
shi won says nothing of this but just closes his eyes and falls back to sleep after a matter of time, however long it takes for him to remind himself that he will stay as long as heechul will let him. he will stay and take care of him, and if in that time heechul knows how it feels to be loved, then shi won would find himself satisfied long after the separation of ways. it never took much to ease shi won's mind or calm his soul, but knowing heechul felt love, true and honest love, was enough.
i just want you to know what it feels like- i can give that to you as long as you let me.
