WOW! That is all I have to say. Sorry, I lied; I have more to say.

I am impressed! I commend and support Nintendo in the direction they are going, and I am very excited to use the new controller for the system still codenamed: Revolution.

Within the very name of their new console, Nintendo promised a revolution in gaming. This controller is IT. Nintendo is revolutionizing gaming; it's changing everything everyone thought they knew about gaming.

There were those in the beginning who were skeptical of DS's innovative touch screen and predicted it would go down the same terminal path as the Virtual Boy. They now have no choice but to eat their words as the DS tops 3 million units sold. With the release of Nintendogs this summer, the company demonstrated its ability to get even non-gamers hooked on games. Nintendogs has sold over 1 million units in Japan alone, and 60% of Nintendog buyers purchased the game along with a DS. Within the first week of its North American release, it sold 250,000 units, an even faster rate than Japan. Think about those amazing statistics for a moment and realize all the people in the world who thought they weren't interested in videogames until Nintendogs. Nintendo is obviously succeeding in its plan to create new gamers. Just think about the fact that out of all gaming consoles, the DS has the highest population of female gamers. Something good is happening with the new direction of Nintendo.

Like most of you, I had mixed emotions when I saw it for the first time. I thought, "Woah, it looks like a sex toy!" and later the more popular, "It looks like a TV remote control!" I furrowed my brow and wondered how it would work as a gaming controller.

I soon realized, though, that that was the whole point. Nintendo's new direction is to redefine gaming, allowing veteran players and those who have never played games to begin at the same starting line. Most console controllers with all their buttons and triggers look intimidating and too complicated to people who don't play games. Just about everyone is comfortable with a television remote control and consider it something that is relevant to them; that's why Nintendo chose to model their new controler after it. It is sleek, cordless, compact, and looks like something you could have sitting on your coffee table at all times. In addition to the buttons immediately visible on the front, there are more buttons on the reverse side. The lights along the bottom indicate the player to whom the controller belongs.

This dynamic new controller allows players to intuitively point and use upon picking it up. It contains a gyro sensor which allows it to detect the angle at which the controller is being tilted. It can also detect the distance of the player from the screen as well as where the player is aiming the controller. Essentially turning your TV screen into the touch pad which revolutionized hand-held gaming for the DS.

One of the system's selling points until now has been its ability to play exsisting games from Nintendo's previous systems. I can hear a bunch of people screaming, "How can you play REAL games with that!?" Opposite the direct pointing device is the expansion connecter port. This allows for new attachments to be connected to the controller, and there will be expansion controllers in the shape of existing controllers.

Third-party devolpers are excited about the new controller. In his presentation Satoru Iwata included commentary from third-party companies such as Square-Enix and Konami. They are looking forward to seeing what this new system will allow with its new possibilities for games.

The Revolution is going to reach more people with videogames than anyone ever thought possible. Watch this video which was shown during Nintendo Co., Ltd President Satoru Iwata's presentation about the new direction of Nintendo (webcast here: http://www.irwebcasting.com/050916/03/ff3672f7df/index.html ) to see what I mean.

In conclusion, ¡viva la revolution! I am excited about Nintendo's vision of the future of gaming, and I hope other Nintendo fans will also support the new console and have faith. Games will be fun and different, and maybe your mom will even beat you in a game for once. :o)
